Tuesday Schedule

Shelby will be doing independent work on Tuesdays and Thursdays once I start at Mothers Day Out and also taking Theater. PLEASE remember to ignore the kids hair. I have not had a chance to attempt to get it fixed since they played beauty shop. Hopefully tomorrow it will be somewhat better.

Shelby's schedule at that time will be much shorter on these days and probably only take about 2 hours total to do all the work (other than theater class)

She will work on her journal, phonics and free reading on the way to Theater, during Matthew's class time and then on the way home. It just gives her something to do.

Two of the assignments she completed today- One was floor plans for her Map work and the other was quadrilaterals in math. OH and yes there are 5 rectangles not 4 on this page. A Square is a rectangle .... Shelby had to correct this later.


Matthew and Shelby's "MASTERPIECE" Art. This is what Matthew told me when he was done. He asked me if I loved his masterpiece. He was instructed to do a portrait of someone but got distracted. Shelby's is a very abstract portrait.

Shelby wanted me to take a picture of her bulletin board. This is our work so far this week. Phonic blends "sl" and "sc", date written out and in number form, perpendicular lines and planes, parallel lines and planes (review), quadrilaterals, triangle, and our vocab word we learned today was "cavort". "Cavort" was actually in a going to Kindergarten easy read book so we looked it up and wrote it in our "C" vocabulary page as an unknown word.

Today was a LONG day for me. Shelby just did NOT want to write anything. I had copy work assigned today and she just dawdled. She LOVES drawing, math, science, maps, history and her five in a row story books with lap books. I just need to figure out how to get her interested in writing and reading.

Monday Schedule

Today we officially started the school year.

Here is the Monday Schedule for Shelby about 3-4 hours worth of work. Mondays and Fridays are her long days once she starts school on Wed's and I start working at Mothers Day Out in September. We are trying to get her used to this now.

Story of the week - A living book to support our Science or History for the week or a Five in a Row book.

Shelby did pretty well overall. She started getting restless at the end of the day BUT we did not start until 1:00 today due to a meeting I had this morning. This will not normally be the case.

Matthews Monday Schedule (he usually only spends 15 minutes at MOST on any subject) If he is not interested I set him up with puzzles, blocks, Gear toys, etc

Matthew did well at the beginning and then fizzled off during History. Our Story this week is a History story and he DID listen to that. He did nothing with the Project today. Overall I think he did well though. I was impressed with how much he DID do for his age.

Beauty Shop and Game night

Today Shelby and Matthew decided to play "Beauty Shop" and cut each others hair. Since this is the second time they have done this they are grounded for 2 weeks from the TV and Wii.

Shelby cut off most of her bangs underneath and on the right hand side.

Matthew cut his right in the center (his hair FINALLY grew back from last time). Sometime this week they both will need to go get their hair fixed. SIGH!

Since they were bored they decided every night is now "game night". Tonight was our Natinal Geographic T-Rex game. It is kinda like Operation.

Abigail played the bean bag toss with Matthew and Shelby. She mainly likes to use it as a tunnel though.

On Friday we went to Deep Eddy pool with one of my friends in Austin. Deep Eddy is the oldest swimming pool in Texas and is a natural spring pool so no yucky cholorine to dry out your skin. It also is a cool 72 degrees year round. That made it nice with our HOT days. The unique thing about this pool is that it has a HUGE shallow area and no algea that you normally get from spring pools.

There is an area blocked off that is about a foot deep and down. Then it gradually goes up to 3 ft 5 inches on one side and 3 ft on the other. The shallow area and deep area (8 ft deep) are seperated by a wall so there was no worry that the kids would accidently go too deep.

We had a blast playing and even met a few other homeschooling families. Next time I will need to bring Abigail since I know there is enough area for her to play.

Organizing subjects and putting symbols on them

Shelby helped me set up our schoolroom today. We rearranged items and made it more organized. We have all of the stuff we will use daily in our main school area and then the books, supplies and games that we will use at some point but not right now on our regular toy/book shelves.

As we study a subject I will move those needed items over to our daily area. This way we won't be overwhelmed.

We also made a weekly schedule that I have clipped to the dry erase board. We made cards that we can move around for each day of the week.

Shelby also put symbols on each subject with the same symbol on that subjects books/folders and bins. For instance Math is a dollar sign ($) so her Math card, folder, books and bin with manipulative's all have $ stickers on them.

Shelby made a bulletin board as well. We will put a monthly calendar to write park days and field trips on, a behavior/chore chart and then use the rest for weekly "themes". We have an area to hang up art work above the chest of drawers too!

We still are planning to put symbol stickers on the outside of each drawer so that Shelby knows what subject is in it without having to open each one up.

We also have a supply bin for each child on the dresser with glue, scissors, crayons, markers, map pencils etc. We have a big bin of art supplies and projects for Art days that I have up on our main shelf. The only thing for now in the Art drawer are Learning to draw books, Art history books and paper. I will get the paints, chalks etc out as we are using them. I can just see a HUGE mess if I leave it at Matthew's level.

We have a shelf with our toys of instruments as well. We have a keyboard, maraca's, triangle, guitar, and a few others I can't recall.

Shelby can't wait to start Kindergarten next week officially.

Mama STILL wants a few more books though and may hit some book stores when Mike gets paid Friday. I would like "The Story of the World 1 Activity Guide", a "Peter and the Wolf" book with CD and maybe "Sing Song Latin" for car rides.

Ice Pops = happiness

The kids LOVE these things. Mike bought a box of 100 for when they are outside playing. This past week we had several playdates and had to have ice pops when we got home. For some reason an Ice Pop solves all problems.

I kept forgetting my camera when we were out with friends but above are some photo's from the weekend of them playing in the back yard. Formal school is on hold until next week due to too many activities.
